I need legal advice as I'm taking care of my sister's house in Palmdale, CA as her husband died. I have been staying with her for 3yrs but her dementia has gotten worse and she is now in a nursing home. Her 2nd husband set his younger son as her POA. However, he lives far away and just takes care of her finances. He came and took a lot of my sister's personal items, including jewelry that she had before she married her 2nd husband. Saying he was going to sell them to cover her stay in the nursing home but she has enough money to pay for her stay and I don't think he should be doing that. The step-son said, he'll be back in March for the rest of her stuff to sell but he hasn't sold anything, he just took them for himself. I have a copy of both my sister's will and brother-in-law's will. I'm her only living relative and I want to know what my options are, what can be done or if the step-son has the power to do whatever he wants with her house and belongings.
